Lucknow: Inspired by Governor Anandiben Patel, students of King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, presented a thought-provoking street play on the theme of “Dowry System” at Raj Bhavan, Lucknow, as part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva Fortnight – 2025.”
The play delivered a deeply emotional and impactful message, depicting the destructive consequences of the dowry system. It portrayed how families suffer, daughters’ parents sacrifice wealth, honor, and peace of mind, yet fail to secure a happy life for their children due to this social evil. From the origins of dowry to its adverse outcomes, the play provided a realistic and stark commentary, urging societal reflection.
At the conclusion of the performance, all participating students took a solemn pledge: they would neither give nor take dowry, nor promote this harmful practice, and would actively contribute to building a dowry-free society.

Congratulating the performers, Legal Advisor to the Governor, Prashant Mishra, said, “Dowry is not only a social disease but also a legal offense. Awareness in society is gradually increasing, and positive changes are visible. We hope that this regressive practice will soon be eradicated from the roots.”
The event witnessed the presence of Raj Bhavan officials, university faculty, students, and other dignitaries, highlighting a collaborative effort to promote social awareness and responsible citizenship among youth.
